Master Bedroom and En Suite - Cheltenham

Master & En Suite Bedroom Interior Design Transformation

This project was all about taking a beautifully renovated home and giving it the warmth, personality, and finishing touches it was missing. The owners had recently added a large extension, which meant the whole house had been updated structurally, but the bedrooms were left as blank white spaces, waiting to be finished. Our role was to step in and turn these empty rooms into spaces that felt not only stylish, but also lived in and loved.

The brief was simple but exciting: transform the master bedroom, en suite, and guest bedroom along with its en suite into rooms that felt calm, inviting, and full of character. The couple also needed the designs to work for their growing family, with comfort and practicality at the heart of every choice.

The Master Bedroom

The master bedroom was designed to feel like a calm, cocooning retreat, a place where the couple could unwind at the end of a busy day. With the structural work already complete, our role was to bring in warmth, character, and a layered sense of comfort that balanced practicality with luxury.

We began with the walls, introducing texture through Taluk Sisal Snow wallcovering by Thibaut on the feature wall. This gave the room depth and softness, while the remaining walls were colour drenched in Paint & Paper Library Slate II. The effect is subtle yet striking, creating a backdrop that feels both restful and refined.

A super king upholstered bed took centre stage, providing the couple with much needed space and instantly elevating the room’s sense of luxury. We styled it with crisp white bed linen, olive green cushions, and a burnt orange striped bolster, a palette inspired by earthy, natural tones that bring warmth without overwhelming the scheme.

On either side, we added characterful bobbin leg bedside tables paired with modern black wall lights featuring glass globes. This contrast between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary detailing created a timeless balance. Above the bed, a large abstract artwork in soft neutrals tied the whole scheme together, adding serenity and focus.

To one side of the room, a walk in wardrobe was painted in Farrow & Ball De Nimes No. 318, a sophisticated blue grey that feels grounded yet fresh. We completed the cabinetry with antique brass handles, adding a refined detail that links back to the accents used throughout the en suite.

Elsewhere in the bedroom, layered furniture choices from a ribbed dressing table with boucle stool to a solid oak chest of drawers with bobbin detailing introduced both practicality and personality. Styling was kept soft and understated, flowing linen curtains, tactile ceramics, and greenery brought in natural movement, while personal touches like framed family photographs and curated books made the space feel lived in and loved.

The end result is a master suite that balances boutique hotel luxury with everyday family comfort, a retreat that feels elegant, welcoming, and deeply personal.

The Master En Suite

The en suite already had a good foundation from the renovation, but it lacked the layered detail and balance needed to make it feel truly considered. Our first step was to refine the vanity area. The builder had initially placed the backsplash too high, which threw off the proportions between the basin and wall-mounted taps. By reducing this height, we created a much more harmonious design, where the beautiful ceramic countertop sinks could take centre stage.

The oak vanity unit was already in place, providing a timeless shaker-style structure with ample drawer storage. To make it more practical for everyday life with a young family, we added woven baskets to the open shelving below. These not only maximised storage but also softened the look with natural texture, making the space feel warmer and more homely.

Above the vanity, we introduced his-and-hers mirrors, framed by elegant ribbed-glass wall lights in a brushed brass finish. These lights added a subtle glow that elevated the entire scheme, bringing a touch of glamour without being overpowering. The brass detailing also tied in beautifully with the antique brass accents we had used in the master bedroom wardrobe.

The bathroom was further styled with carefully chosen accessories — amber glass bottles, wooden accents, and a reed diffuser, that brought personality and everyday function to the countertop, while keeping the look uncluttered.

At the far end of the room, the freestanding bath became a luxurious focal point, perfectly positioned beneath the window to capture natural light. We added a discreet waterproof bathroom TV that doubles as a mirror when not in use, allowing the couple to soak and unwind without compromising on elegance. A faux olive tree introduced natural greenery and texture, completing the calm, spa-like atmosphere.

Project before and After

When we first stepped into these spaces, they were blank white rooms with great potential but little warmth or personality. By layering in colour, texture, and carefully considered details, we transformed them into a master suite and guest bedroom that now feel elegant, inviting, and truly lived in.

The result is a home that not only looks beautiful but also works effortlessly for a growing family.
