Molton 50 Flagship Store: Commercial Store Design by G R Design Studio

Molton 50 approached G R Design Studio to create their flagship chocolate truffle store in Cheltenham a striking destination that combines boutique retail with café culture. The space needed to set the tone for future rollouts across the UK and internationally, offering a sophisticated yet welcoming environment where their luxury chocolate truffles could shine.


The Brief


The client wanted a space that:

  • Showcased their artisan chocolate truffles as the hero product.

  • Offered an inviting café-style atmosphere for customers to relax and linger.

  • Reflected the premium positioning of Molton 50 and the wider group’s ambitious growth strategy.

  • Delivered a design model that could be replicated across future flagship locations.


The Transformation


Before we began, the space was a neutral shell with no personality plain walls, basic flooring, and minimal lighting.


We reimagined it into a high-end retail and hospitality space with layered lighting, crafted finishes, and statement design details, transforming it into a destination in its own right.



Our Design Approach

Our design concept was built around three key pillars:

  1. Atmosphere & Experience

    • Warm, layered lighting to create intimacy.

    • Statement pendants for texture and focal points.

    • Illuminated organic feature wall, inspired by molten chocolate.

  2. Product as Hero

    • Floating shelves with concealed lighting to display products like gallery pieces.

    • Glass domes and crystal vessels to elevate the truffles as treasures.

  3. Seating & Flow

    • Flexible front-of-store seating for passers-by.

    • Café tables and banquette-style seating encouraging exploration.

    • A striking coffee bar with backlit shelving as the main focal point


The Result


The completed flagship store is a sophisticated blend of boutique retail and café culture, perfectly aligned with Molton 50’s vision.


  • Window seating that draws customers inside.

  • A glowing feature counter and illuminated shelves that reinforce brand identity.

  • Rich textures and warm tones that create a multi-sensory experience.


The store is now not only a place to enjoy chocolate but a destination that embodies the Molton 50 brand story and sets a new standard for artisanal retail in the UK.
