A Contemporary Family Home Designed for Flow, Function and Timeless Living

Sunnycroft Mews is a full interior design project by G R Design Studio, created to deliver a timeless, contemporary home that balances light, texture, and functionality.

Designed for modern family living, the scheme focuses on flow, cohesion, and thoughtful detailing, ensuring each space feels connected while still offering its own identity.

From bespoke joinery to a carefully curated colour palette, every element has been considered to create a home that is both elevated and practical.

The Design Concept: Calm, Contemporary Living

The design concept centres around creating a home that feels effortlessly calm and refined, while still being highly functional for everyday life.

A muted base palette is layered with deeper tones and natural materials, allowing contrast to be introduced in a subtle, sophisticated way. The result is a space that feels warm, inviting, and quietly luxurious, without overwhelming the architecture.

Colour Palette: Soft Neutrals with Depth and Contrast

The colour palette plays a key role in creating cohesion throughout Sunnycroft Mews.

  • Farrow & Ball No. 241 Skimming Stone has been used in the lounge, offering a warm, soft neutral backdrop

  • Paint & Paper Library Slate II (162) brings depth and sophistication to the kitchen

  • Farrow & Ball No. 289 Inchyra Blue is introduced through the entrance panelling and WC, adding a rich, tonal contrast

These tones are layered with complementary neutrals and deeper greys, allowing the spaces to feel both light and grounded.

Materials & Finishes: Layered Texture and Warmth

Materiality is used to bring warmth and depth into the home, ensuring the design feels tactile and inviting.

Key finishes include:

  • Pale herringbone oak flooring, adding movement and natural warmth throughout

  • Textured stone surfaces, particularly within the kitchen, creating a contemporary focal point

  • Painted panelling and bespoke joinery, enhancing architectural features

  • A balance of matt finishes and subtle reflective elements, keeping the spaces feeling light and refined

Open-Plan Living: Designed for Connection

At the heart of the home is a fully open-plan kitchen, dining, and living space, designed to support both family life and entertaining.

The layout allows for seamless movement between zones, while large windows maximise natural light and connection to the outdoors.

The kitchen was designed in collaboration with Lansdown Kitchens  combining functionality with a clean, contemporary aesthetic.

Key features include:

  • A statement kitchen island, anchoring the space

  • A modern fireplace feature, adding warmth and a focal point

  • Clearly defined zones that still feel visually connected

  • Furniture layouts that support both social and relaxed living

Bespoke Joinery & Smart Storage Solutions

Storage was a key consideration throughout the design, ensuring the home remains functional without compromising on aesthetics.

Bespoke joinery solutions include:

  • Understairs storage, maximising unused space

  • Integrated media units and shelving, blending seamlessly into the architecture

  • Concealed cabinetry, maintaining a clean and uncluttered look

These elements are designed to feel intentional, enhancing both usability and visual flow.

Architectural Details & Lighting

Architectural features have been carefully enhanced to bring depth and character to the space.

The statement staircase, with its darker balustrade set against softer wall tones, creates contrast and anchors the entrance area. This is complemented by:

  • Wall panelling, adding subtle detailing

  • Layered lighting, including architectural and decorative elements

  • Carefully considered finishes that highlight key features without overwhelming the design

The Atmosphere: Refined, Warm and Liveable

Sunnycroft Mews has been designed to feel calm, contemporary, and welcoming.

The combination of soft neutrals, natural materials, and considered detailing creates a home that feels both elevated and comfortable — a space that works effortlessly for both everyday living and entertaining.
